Brief Description

We are seeking a Test Operations Engineer to support operations in the Radiation-Solid Interactions Department which operates and maintains Sandia’s Ion Beam Laboratory (IBL). This role includes the implementation of operational, maintenance, and administrative procedures to support the safe operations of the IBL, as well as the operation and oversight of a collection of focused ion beam implantation and irradiation capabilities that are used by a wide range of internal and external users. The IBL team consists of a mix of post-doctoral appointees, permanent technical staff and technologists. We operate seven high energy (kV to MV) ion accelerators, multiple high energy (100-300 kV) electron beam systems, optical setups including class 3R lasers, high temperature (>1200C) annealing stages, low temperature (<40K) chambers and high voltage (>100 kV) testing capabilities covering a wide range of complex high hazard operations.In the safety operations role, you will have the opportunity to oversee the development of the safety paperwork needed to ensure the safe operations of the entire IBL including operating procedures, pressure safety data packages, work control authorizations, etc…. This typically includes the development of new safety paperwork to allow for novel experiments to be developed. Here you will work hand and hand with ES&H professionals, key staff, and technologists from the IBL. In operations role, you will be responsible for the operation, maintenance, and user interaction for a collection of focused ion beam implantation and irradiation capabilities. Here you will work with multiple IBL staff and users.
